Could ADHD Be Affecting Your Child or Teen?

Child & Adolescent ADHD Testing May Help If:

  • Your child has difficulty staying focused at school or during homework.
  • Teachers have raised concerns about attention, organization, or follow-through.
  • Your child frequently forgets assignments, loses materials, or misses important details.
  • Homework takes much longer than expected or becomes a source of frustration.
  • Your child struggles to begin or complete tasks without repeated reminders.
  • Impulsivity, restlessness, or difficulty waiting may be affecting school or home life.
  • You’re unsure whether ADHD, learning concerns, anxiety, or another factor may be contributing.

ADHD can look different from one child or teen to another. A comprehensive evaluation can help clarify whether ADHD may be part of the picture and identify other factors that could also be affecting attention, learning, behavior, or daily functioning.

Child & Adolescent ADHD Testing May Help Clarify:

  • Attention and concentration difficulties
  • Organization and time management
  • Working memory and forgetfulness
  • Task initiation and completion
  • Impulsivity or restlessness
  • Executive functioning challenges
  • School and homework difficulties
  • Whether anxiety, learning concerns, mood, or other factors may be contributing

A Clear 4-Step Process

“No guesswork. No confusion. Just a clear path forward.”

Step 1: Intake Appointment

Your first step is an intake appointment to discuss your child’s concerns, history, school experiences, and goals for testing.

We may ask you to complete parent questionnaires and, when appropriate, gather information from teachers or other professionals who know your child well.

Step 2: Schedule Testing

Testing is completed in person at our Lynchburg office.

Your child’s testing session may take several hours, depending on the assessments recommended. We’ll explain what to expect so you and your child can feel prepared.

Step 3: Testing & Report Preparation

Your child will complete the recommended assessments, and any remaining parent, teacher, or self-report questionnaires will be reviewed as part of the evaluation.

Once testing is complete, the clinician will review the results and prepare the written report.

Step 4: Feedback Session

Meet with the clinician to review the results, ask questions, and discuss what the findings may mean for your child.

You’ll also receive recommendations and practical next steps based on your child’s individual strengths and needs.

Want More Detail About the Child & Adolescent ADHD Testing Process?

Your first step is an intake appointment. During this session, we take time to understand your child’s concerns, history, school experiences, and goals for testing.

We will talk about challenges related to attention, organization, follow-through, behavior, learning, or other areas of daily life. We may also ask about your child’s developmental, educational, medical, or mental health history when relevant to the evaluation.

If additional questionnaires, school records, teacher input, or other information would be helpful, we’ll let you know what to complete or provide before testing.

After the intake appointment, we’ll schedule your child’s in-person testing at our Lynchburg office. Testing may be completed in one session or split into multiple sessions, depending on the recommended assessments.
Testing sessions may last several hours, so we recommend bringing a snack and drink. Breaks can be taken when needed to help your child stay comfortable and engaged.
For child testing, we ask that a parent or guardian remain onsite during the appointment so we can easily communicate if your child needs a break, needs additional support, or testing needs to be adjusted.
Continue your child’s regular medications as prescribed unless their healthcare provider or testing clinician has given different instructions. If your child feels unwell on the day of testing, please contact our office so we can determine whether rescheduling is appropriate.
Once testing is complete, your clinician will score, review, and interpret the results along with the information gathered throughout the evaluation.

If the evaluation includes parent questionnaires, teacher forms, school records, or other requested information, completing and returning those promptly helps us keep the report on schedule.

The written report will summarize the findings, explain what they may mean, and provide recommendations based on your child’s individual strengths and needs.

Reports are completed within 30 days after testing is completed.

When the report is ready, we’ll schedule a feedback session to review the results with you.

During this appointment, your clinician will explain the findings, answer your questions, and discuss whether ADHD appears to be part of the overall picture.

You’ll also review recommendations and practical next steps for supporting your child at home, at school, or in other areas where appropriate.

Our goal is for you to leave the feedback session with a clearer understanding of your child’s strengths, challenges, and options moving forward.

Helpful records may include previous psychological or ADHD evaluations, school records, IEPs, 504 Plans, teacher reports, and relevant medical or mental health records.

If we need specific documentation before testing, we’ll let you know during the intake process.

Because testing may last several hours, we also recommend bringing a snack and drink for your child.

Your child’s written report will be completed within 30 days after testing is completed.
