ABOUT RESSIE CANTU
Ressie is a Licensed Resident in Counseling in the Commonwealth of Virginia who received her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She is currently pursuing licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor and has experience working in outpatient, hospital, and community based settings. As part of her clinical training during graduate school Ressie completed her internships at Virginia Baptist Hospital with Pathways Addiction & Recovery Services and Hope for Tomorrow Counseling. Ressie is passionate about approaching therapy from a holistic perspective in order to help individuals move forward in their journey towards healing and wellness.
Ressie believes that patterns of thought play a leading role in how we experience ourselves and the world and thus utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as her primary approach. She also utilizes strategies from a Family Systems approach and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy as well as trauma informed care. Ressie is also trained in EMDR, an evidenced based treatment for PTSD, anxiety, depression, and OCD. Her experience includes working with depression, anxiety, trauma, family therapy, and life transitions. Ressie believes there is no “one size fits all” counseling approach and seeks to collaborate with each individual to find an approach that is tailored to their needs.
In her free time, Ressie enjoys being outdoors, spending time with friends, and enjoying a cup of coffee or tea while reading a good book.
