Substance Abuse Counseling: Helping you understand addiction

The first step in the Substance Abuse Counseling Lynchburg, VA process is to complete a comprehensive assessment to determine the extent of the problem and appropriate counseling options. Our evaluation not only includes an interview but can also use one or more research-based evaluative tools, such as the MAST, DAST, SASSI or ASI. Collateral interviews and drug screening may also be employed to further support the assessment process.

If the assessment is in relation to a legal proceeding, a copy of the criminal defense history will be required, and it speeds the process to bring that to the counseling appointment. Based on the results of the tests and interview, the findings of the assessment and recommendations for counseling will be explained and the patient will be given treatment referrals for that counseling.
