Professional Counselor Intern
BIO
Karen received her B.S. Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University with the original intent of pursuing art therapy. After working in hotel management for ten years and later founding an association management firm to multi-manage state professional and nonprofit organizations for fourteen years, she received her MBA from Liberty University. The most fulfilling aspect of working with businesses and organizations was providing entrepreneurial, small business, executive, and life coaching with a heartfelt focus on women’s issues. Karen is a candidate for her M.A. in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in December 2014 and will be interning in the Charlottesville Wyndhurst office at Colonial Baptist Church. Karen is certified to offer the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument and is a Master Christian Life Coach through classes at the Coaches’ Training Institute and Light University.
Karen and her husband (her high school sweetheart) are very blessed to live on an old family homestead and farm in a rural area of central Virginia. They are striving toward a self-sustaining lifestyle and enjoy producing fresh, organic vegetables and fruit to benefit other friends and family. To balance work and leisure, they are avid motorcyclists with the American Legion Riders and enjoy doing service projects for military veterans. They believe in “wearing out instead of rusting out,” so seeking new adventures is normal. As empty nesters, they enjoy a large, rambunctious family of six children and their spouses, ten grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
